The bibliographic heritage of Navarra
The "Bibliographic Heritage of Navarra" consists of the libraries, public bibliographic collections and those manuscripts, printed documents, books, leaflets, loose sheets, be they unitary or part of a series, of which there is no record of at least three copies in public libraries or services. This number of copies is considered to exist for works printed after 1958.
Art. 81 of Navarran Law 14/2005, of the 25th of November, on the Cultural Heritage of Navarra. Art. 50 of Law 16/1985, of the 25th of June, on Spanish Cultural Heritage.
The mission of the General Library of Navarra, through its Department of Bibliographic Heritage, is to collect, preserve and disseminate Navarra's bibliographic stock, which includes its written stock, periodical or otherwise, visual, sound, multimedia and printed stock and stock on any other kinds of support, and to safeguard the preservation of Navarra's bibliographic heritage and coordinate the creation of the Union Catalogue of the Bibliographic Heritage of Navarra.
Art. 16 of Navarran Law 32/2002, of the 19th of November, regulating Navarra's library system.
The Union Catalogue of the Bibliographic Heritage of Navarra is an instrument by which to protect and disseminate the community's old bibliographic stock. The aim is to draft an inventory and description of the material of this kind kept in Navarra's public and private libraries. It forms part of the Spanish Bibliographic Heritage Union Catalogue project directed by the Ministry of Culture.
The Union Catalogue of the Bibliographic Heritage of Navarra contains catalogued records of the printed documents from the early days of printing to 1910 kept in those public and private libraries in Navarra taking part in the project. As an exception it includes maps and manuscripts, but does not cover information concerning periodical publications, graphic material or printed music.
The descriptions have been written, for the most part, with the copies in view, applying ISBD(A) standards, MARC coding, version IBERMARC, and the ISO standards. The process is in continuous amplification and depuration.
