It was created in 2001 to help new filmmakers. Since 2003 it has set out to promote a socially committed and caring type of cinema where there is room for different formats. The festival has four categories of competition: Alternative, Action, Visual Effects and Screenplay.

The festival started in 2000 with the aim of recognising the best debut films made in Spanish cinema during the year and thus to help develop the careers of directors, scriptwriters and actors right at the beginning of their careers.

The Bertiz Consortium organises this festival, which is open to short fiction films and animations, with the objective of supporting the work of young producers and helping to create an environment for enjoying, discovering and appreciating cinema in the Bidasoa district.
