Winners from the 10th Competition
The 'Julián Gayarre International Singing Competition' was started in 1980 with the twin objectives of raising the profile of this tenor from Navarre, who gives the competition its name, and of projecting the region on the stage of international culture. This competition, which occurs every two years, is open to young performers from all over the world.
The honorary presidency falls on the mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza. Maestro Piero Rattalino is in charge of the competition's artistic direction.
Like the Pablo Sarasate International Violín Competition, it is listed in the International Federation of Music Competitions. It awards two official prizes, for male and female voices, worth 10,000 and 6,000 euros respectively, and various special prizes as well as scholarships and grants.
