International Cooperation for Development (CID) is the expression of developed democratic societies’ solidarity with integrated development in other parts of the world. This movement has been linked to civil society initiatives representing various religious, humanitarian and political concerns.

With the rise of citizen awareness and social pressure on these issues since the 1980s, a growing number of special Cooperation for Development public budgets has been approved and organisations dedicated to these tasks have been created.

The International Cooperation for Development programme, implemented by the Department of Social, Family, Youth and Sports Affairs for the first time in 1991, is grounded in the need for international solidarity asserted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Charter of the United Nations, the Treaty on European Union, the Spanish Constitution, the International Law on International Cooperation, and the Autonomous Law on Cooperation for Development.
