Miguel Sanz Sesma was born in Corella (Navarre) on 16 September 1952. He is married to Villar López Mateo and he has a son and a daughter.
He holds a Teaching Diploma in Primary Education and has pursued a course in Business Studies and the General Management Scheme (PDG) at the IESE Business School of the University of Navarre.
Before devoting himself to full-time politics, he held several professional positions in the banking sector.
In the municipal elections held in 1983 and 1987, he headed the list of candidates for the Unión del Pueblo Navarro to the Local Council of Corella and he was elected mayor in both legislatures, a post he held between 1983 and 1991.
He has been elected as a foral MP for Unión del Pueblo Navarro – UPN – in all the electoral processes carried out since the approval of the Amejoramiento del Fuero. Since 1995 he has been the main candidate of UPN in the elections for the Parliament of Navarre, and this group was the one that received more votes in these elections: 17 members in the parliament out of 50 seats at the Chamber in 1995; 22 members in the parliament in 1999; 23 in 2003; and 22 in the last elections, held in May 2007.
Between 1991 and 1995 he was Vice-President of the Government of Navarre and Minister of the Presidency. Likewise, between 1991 and 1994 he was Minister of Local Administration and of Territorial Organisation and Environment. On 18 September 1996, he became President of the Government of Navarre, a position he still holds today, following his election by the Parliament resulting from the elections of 13 June 1999, 25 May 2003 and 27th of May 2007.
By virtue of his position, he is also President of the Board of Directors of the savings bank Caja Navarra, and board member of the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks.
Since 1997 he is the president of Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN).
