Juan Ramón Corpas

Juan Ramón Corpas Mauleón.

He was born in Estella on 16 December 1952. He is married with two children. He is a doctor specialising in Internal Medicine, a career that he has pursued in the Navarre Health Service-Osasunbidea and in his own private surgery in Pamplona.

As an author, he has published 21 titles in a range of genres: poetry, fiction, travel guides and essays: he is also the author of scripts for videos and of plays for theatre and radio, and is a regular columnist for the “Diario de Navarra” and other media. He is an acknowledged expert on the “Way of Santiago”. His output in all these fields has been rewarded with several prizes.

For over twenty-five years he has been an active supporter of cultural activities in the Comunidad Foral. He was co-founder of the magazine “Elgacena”, published in Estella, and between 1991 and 1998 he directed the poetry magazine “Rio Arga”. He also belonged to the founding group of the Ateneo Navarro/Nafar Ateneoa, on whose first governing board he was responsible for Literature and Linguistics.

He is likewise a member of the “Misterio de Obanos” Foundation and, from its creation until 1999, of the Navarre Council of Culture, a think-tank of the Government of Navarra on cultural and artistic policy.

During the legislature 1999-2003 he was director general of Culture –Institution Principe de Viana of the Government of Navarre. During the last legislature, 2003-2007, he was councillor of Culture and Tourism, and he will be in charge of this Department from 2007 onwards.
